I recently purchased a new dishwasher from Lowe’s. I decided to choose the no payments and no interest for 12 months promotion they had going. They also gave me a 3000 dollar credit line which I wasn’t even aware of. So today I open my mail from American express and to my horror they have lowered my credit line by 1500 dollars. I call them to find out what the hell has happened, and they say that my recent delinquency on my Lowe’s account has not only affected my credit score, but they wont even consider restoring my credit line until 6 months from now. Now, I’m aware that my credit is by no means “A.1″, but I also know it is good enough for me to have recently re-financed my home, and get me the lowe’s card (which never arrived at my home by the way, it was sent to the wrong address). Oh, and I am somehow 2 months “delinquent” on a dishwasher I purchased in october 07′ which was supposed to be interest and payment free for 1 year.
Now I know Amex cant do anything, but I know Lowe’s owes me a credit fix at the minimum. What can I expect as far as compensation for the damage they have done to me here?
Just wanted to mention my home address is correct on all the paperwork for the dishwasher, yet my card and bills (which I shouldn’t even be getting) all went to the wrong address.

My credit ratings were bad about twelve months ago but I was offered a credit card by GE Money. If I accept this card and keep my payments in top order will this restore confidence in lenders in the future?

I have already pulled a copy of all 3 credit reports and went through and tried to recognize the items. I also have the phone numbers and addresses for some of the places, but not all. Is it best to start with the small bills and work up or the larger bills and work down? The majority of the collection accounts are for medical bills from when my daughter had surgery. Any ideas that may help me get on track would be greatly appreciated. I also know that once I get this settled and as well as now, I need to make sure all of my bills are paid on time and that the accounts in good standing need to keep low balances. Thanks.

I had some credit card and auto debt from 2001 that I have never paid off (and I don’t plan to). I have stopped getting calls and notices in the mail about these debts.

1. Can they still come after me for the balances? If yes, how much time do they have left to collect?

2. When can my credit be restored, or at least used again?
It’s all from the state of Colorado

I was thinking of getting a car through a dealership who deals with bad credit records, in hopes to restore some of my bad record. I am thinking of opening up a new auto loan and having it continued as a open good standing loan for about 6 months to a year. I have the cash to purchase the car in question out right, but would this do the trick instead?

I saw on a talk show that someone had their identity stolen, and of course their credit was destroyed. That isn’t my case, but last year, my employer discriminated against and terminated me (from a desk job - not hard labor) all because I had a stiff back for one day. My doctor said I was okay to work, but the employer still took the job away, and even told me that they were happy with my job performance, so it had nothing to do with that. Since then, I have been looking for a new job, and have not been able to find one. All my money (which wasn’t much to begin with) is drained and I have to file bankruptcy. I know that typically, a person has to go through up to 10 years to restore their credit, but I didn’t bring this on myself, and had excellent credit before all of this happened. So, is there some way that I can have my credit score restored to what it was a year or so ago? I don’t see having the next 10 years of my life ruined because of some unethical employer.

I know this doesn’t belong in Newborn & Baby, but I have asked in other sections and I hardly got any answers. I always get good advice here, so I’m bringing it to y’all- because moms DO know everything :)
I am interested in fixing my credit, but I am clueless of where to start. I am very wary of credit agencies being a scam. If you have had credit troubles, and restored or are currently restoring good credit, can you please tell me a bit about how you did it- links to agencies, and personal experiences would be much appreciated.

note: Much of what I owe is outdated medical bills, utilities from when I was in college- really OLD stuff.

Thanks in advance!
