My fiance and I are looking to purchase a home. However we have a high debt ratio, and some slow payments in the past. We tried to get a loan to consolidate our debt, but because of our low credit scores, we were denied the loan. We have a high interest car loan (18%), student loans, and credit cards, which is why we really want to consolidate our debt before buying a home.

If my credit card information was stolen and fraudulently used, is there a way to find out who done it?
Filed Under Credit | 4 Comments
I have just found out that someone has stolen my credit card Information and made fraudulently charges. I am not sure where it has happened, whether if it’s over the internet or physically at a retail store. It has made me feel so nervous to buy or conduct any kind of monetary transactions over the internet now. Is there a way to find out who did it, whether over the internet or physically? Is there a way to track it if my credit card company will not disclose any information. I guess knowing the truth will be the only way to restore my faith in e-commerce again.

I have an HP Pavilion a1230n Media Center PC. I picked up a virus that kept resetting the computer. I tried to restore the PC to a previous good setting but it was also corrupt. I tried a system restore from the hard drive but it would lock up. I even tried a full system restore from the hard drive with the same lockup problems. I had no other choice but to purchase a set of restore disks from the HP website. I tried a full system restore from the disks and after about 3 hours the settup process finally finished and the CD popped out and a message said to “reboot or shutdown” I chose “reboot” Then it went to the blue screen that says: “Do not shut down the computer during this one time setup process. Your PC will restart several times during this process. Messages may pop up on your screen. Ignore these messages until prompted to restart or shut down your pc”. It stayed on this screen for two days until finally showing the desktop with opened windows that said “log”, “This is a file. This is a file has stopped responding and needs to be shut down”, “process”, and another screen that had three choices. Don’t remember the choices exactly but one said something about sealing it up for the end user and the start menu was also opened. I selected restart and it went back to the blue screen I stated before with the “Do not turn off your computer message” I called tech support for HP and they will only help if I pay $45 with my credit card. They said it might be the hard drive. I purchased a new hard drive, ran the disks again and I get the same problem. Please help!!!!! Thanks.
Forgot to meantion that I only had the mouse, keyboard, monitor and power cable conected.

When will credit be restored?
Filed Under Personal Finance | 3 Comments
I had some credit card and auto debt from 2001 that I have never paid off (and I don’t plan to). I have stopped getting calls and notices in the mail about these debts.
1. Can they still come after me for the balances? If yes, how much time do they have left to collect?
2. When can my credit be restored, or at least used again?
It’s all from the state of Colorado

Collection agency/Credit help?
Filed Under Credit | 5 Comments
I had a negative balance with washington mutal bank. I called them to see how long I had to restore the balance before it would show up on my credit report. They told me I had a certain amount of time and that date hasn’t come up yet however I received notice from collection agency to pay this.
Does this mean that it is already going to show up on my credit report and affect my credit score because the collection agency contacted me?
I am sending them payment right away, still before what the bank told me was acceptable amount of time.

What’s the most cost effective way to restore bad credit from bankruptcy?
Filed Under Personal Finance | 5 Comments
I’d like to finance a car, but I don’t want to pay <20% interest or ask someone to co-sign. Should I bite the bullet for 3-5 years of inflated interest, apply for credit card or is there a better, cheaper way?

credit rating/score?
Filed Under Credit | 5 Comments
I hate to admit the fact that my credit score is ruined, due to many factors such as unemployment and so on. I am currently on default for atleast 6 months on all my credit cards but before that I closed all my credit cards being that I was max out anyway. Now I heard that there might be a way to do something along the lines of a due over on your credit score or fix it and restore my credit to above 720 with out showing all the negative reports on my credit report? is this possible? or what might be my best option to restore my credit? I know that paying off my debt is only part of the solution. Thank you

Anyone know of a reputable BK Attorney and Debt Consolidation Specialist?
Filed Under Personal Finance | 2 Comments
Sometimes the only option for my prospects is Bankruptcy or Debt Consolidation. Now as a Credit Consultant my job is to restore and maintain a squeaky clean credit report so it kills me to send them off to file BK or consolidate their debt however it’s their only option. I prefer a non-profit in the Central Valley, CA (because that’s where my office is located) who can offer these services and become part of my referral directory. If anyone out there can steer me in the right direction I’d really appreciate it. Thank you

Is there any way to take myself off as cosigner?
Filed Under Credit | 8 Comments
I am the cosigner on a friends car loan. In retrospect, that was a BIG mistake! He had the means to pay the loan when he bought the car, but is now getting sued by his ex-wife and is having 65% of his paycheck given to her so he cant pay the monthly loan on time every month. He currently has 6 late payments. I was never told he was late by him or by the creditor and just found out that I was denied for a personal loan because of the delinquency. Is there anyway I can take my name off the agreement? My credit was really good and is getting really bad really quick because of him. I dont want it to keep getting worse because he still has years left to pay on the car. Any advice on how to stop being a cosigner and try to restore my credit?

What are some pros & cons to insourcing jobs to indian reservations instead of outsourcing to other countries?
Filed Under Other - Business & Finance | 9 Comments
I have asked this question in other forums . . .Why can’t we insource, certain industry to people on reservations instead of sending jobs overseas?
1) Bank accounts, credit and personal information, in foreigners’ hands seems like a recipe for a homeland security disaster.
2) Create jobs in some of the poorest regions of the U.S.
3) Balance resources between indian nations & keep it economically strong in our homeland
4) Restore confidence in people both on & off the reservation.
5) Common language already spoken
6) hard-working and easily trainable work force set up quickly
7) nearness to markets/ less transportation cost/customs/taxes etc.
local investment
9) quality of life for all Americans
10) tax incentives for businesses working with sovereign nations
Can you you think of any other pros or cons?
Thanks William. Interesting input about entitlement and you raise an important point about reputation. Because I know better, I become so frustrated with stereotypical notions about the “lazy, drunken, amoral, uncivilized indian”. It is a harmful myth. There *are* undeniably problems with adaptation-with forced assimilation but I’ve known most indians to be the most honest and hard-working around. I guess people will never understand until they are forced to walk in two worlds and outside of time. IMHO, in a country where the majority is Christian and highly judgmental, casinos still serve to make indians look amoral –as if they are cheats and gamblers out for money. Rez life is HARD and not a handout or adequate compensation for a dirty deal. Indians need representation and a real solution to these problems.
Thanks Sweets. I don’t follow how it would be considered racist. Not all jobs on reservations are held by indians. Many casinos employ large numbers of non-indians.
Yes, the sheer numbers of people in these foreign countries creates a large pool of talent at low cost but with 3.4 million jobs having been shipped offshore since 1998 there is more than enough available workforce here.
Other countries also have minimum wage requirements as well as other requirements for industry. Permits, factory operations, infrastructure, training, translation, freight . . . there are all sorts of hidden costs. Add to that the fact that a lot of contracts are contingent upon bribes, and you begin to wonder how cost-effective doing business overseas actually is.
I lived in Thailand for several years and have been traveling & working there for over 15. My husband was a director of one of our largest computer manufacturing facilities so I am not pulling numbers out of a hat.

Is this a case of the Empire Striking Back?
I hear ya Mr. TwoCrows. This is why I said ‘certain’ industry. Perhaps call centers, etc. I’m thinking mainly white-collar type jobs, but there is no reason why certain cottage-industry jobs could not be created. The added value of being made in America as authentic indian craft at a time when health scares over manufacturing processes in countries like China does not escape me. I’m sure you are also aware of the problem with Chinese peddling American indian goods.
I’m mainly thinking of eco-friendly type jobs. Solar farms perhaps and leading a trend toward NATURAL capitalism. Things that already support the indian way of life. Cradle to cradle type manufacturing, not cradle to grave industry. What better people to lead the way than those who know the land and how to manage resources in a sustainable way?
You’re correct about the infrastructure, but that seems minor compared with setting up infrastructure in a foreign country.
Thanks Indigo. I agree. I see that the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation (backed by Warren Buffet) offers business loans/grants to people around the world and is now helping indigenous groups in Australia.

Thanks Joan and TD . . . I agree.
TD … I know better. BTW, I am guessing you are Lakota, Rosebud? If so, and you know Matostandinghigh please say hello for me
Michelle
btw TD Yes.. I know about the Navajo lands and the Navajo Uranium radiation poisoning. I have family in New Mexico. And let’s not forget Los Alamos which, during heavy rains, continues to wash radioactive waste downstream to pueblos.
When I propose insourcing I am not proposing hazardous materials or factories, I would like to see sustainable enterprise.

Federal Tax Lien, does it show up on credit?
Filed Under Credit | 4 Comments
I just learned that two weeks ago, the IRS filed a Federal Tax Lien against me. I need to know if it goes on my credit and if it does, what impact will it have. I have perfect credit….so far.
Also, if it does go on my credit, after I pay them and they release it, will it restore my perfect credit or will it hound me for next seven years?
Please help. Thanks!

What else can we do to combat the depression by a forced credit expansion?
Filed Under Other - Politics & Government | 3 Comments
To combat the depression by a forced credit expansion is to attempt to cure the evil by the very means which brought it about; because we are suffering from a misdirection of production, we want to create further misdirection - a procedure that can only lead to a much more severe crisis as soon as the credit expansion comes to an end… It is probably to this experiment, together with the attempts to prevent liquidation once the crisis had come, that we owe the exceptional severity and duration of the depression.
The only thing we learn from history, I am afraid, is that we do not learn from history.
The very people who have spent the past several years assuring us that the economy is fundamentally sound, and who themselves foolishly cheered the extension of all these novel kinds of mortgages, are the ones who now claim to be the experts who will restore prosperity! Just how spectacularly wrong, how utterly without a clue, does someone have to be before his expert status is called into question?
Oh, and did you notice that the bailout is now being called a “rescue plan”? I guess “bailout” wasn’t sitting too well with the American people.
The very people who with somber faces tell us of their deep concern for the spread of democracy around the world are the ones most insistent on forcing a bill through Congress that the American people overwhelmingly oppose. The very fact that some of you seem to think you’re supposed to have a voice in all this actually seems to annoy them.
I continue to urge you to contact your representatives and give them a piece of your mind. I myself am doing everything I can to promote the correct point of view on the crisis. Be sure also to educate yourselves on these subjects - the Campaign for Liberty blog is an excellent place to start. Read the posts, ask questions in the comment section, and learn.
H.G. Wells once said that civilization was in a race between education and catastrophe. Let us learn the truth and spread it as far and wide as our circumstances allow. For the truth is the greatest weapon we have.

Can I have my social security number changed due to identity theft?
Filed Under Personal Finance | 7 Comments
I have found out that my social security card number is being used by an EX relation. Credit cards are repeatedly issued in my name, and I have closed countless accounts over the years, but new cards keep getting issued in this person’s name with my social security number.
If I have documented proof of identity theft, would the Social Security Administration accept this as a valid reason to have my social security number changed? My credit is ruined because of this person.
If there is no way to get a new social security number, how can I ever restore my credit?
